RANK

Applies to ✅ Open Source Edition   ✅ Express Edition   ✅ Professional Edition   ✅ Enterprise Edition

RANK assigns a series of rankings, which are different from ROW_NUMBER.

  • The same rank is assigned to tied rows
  • Ranks are skipped after tied rows

This works similarly as ranks in a sports event, when two athletes are ranked first, the next one is ranked third.

  LANGUAGE_ID,
  rank() OVER (ORDER BY LANGUAGE_ID)
FROM
  BOOK;

         BOOK.LANGUAGE_ID,
         rank().over(orderBy(BOOK.LANGUAGE_ID)))
     .from(BOOK)
     .fetch();

Producing:
