ST_Overlaps
Applies to ❌ Open Source Edition ✅ Express Edition ✅ Professional Edition ✅ Enterprise Edition
This predicate checks if two geometries overlap, i.e. they intersect, but no geometry completely contains the other. For example:
create.select( field(stOverlaps( stGeomFromText("POLYGON ((-3 -1, -1 -1, -1 1, -3 1, -3 -1))"), stGeomFromText("POLYGON ((-4 -2, -2 -2, -2 0, -4 0, -4 -2))") )), field(stOverlaps( stGeomFromText("POLYGON ((3 -1, 1 -1, 1 1, 3 1, 3 -1))"), stGeomFromText("POLYGON ((2 -1, 1 -1, 1 0, 2 0, 2 -1))") )) ).fetch();
The result being, for example
+-------------+-------------+ | ST_Overlaps | ST_Overlaps | +-------------+-------------+ | true | false | +-------------+-------------+
